Latrobe City Classic 2009
Twenty Mixed Triples teams, down by four
teams from last year, competed in the Latrobe City Bocce Classic, over the 4th
and 5th July 2009 weekend.
The event drew 16 teams from all over Melbourne metropolitan clubs, including
a team from Sydney for the first time, and a player from Japan, So Toyoda.
The host club, the Italian Australian Social and Sporting Club of Gippsland, again welcomed the event for its eighth edition.
The event was opened on the Friday night by
the Mayor of Latrobe City Cr Lisa Price.
The opening was attended by former mayors of Latrobe City Cr Bruce
Lougheed and Cr Darrell White as well as Councillor Sandy Kam. The executive of the Bocce Federation,
President Raymond Cher, Secretary
On the Sunday afternoon the final match was between teams Morwell and Freccia Azzurra 1.
It was a thrilling match with the match dominated by the Throwers Matthew Moffatt, Morwell and Nick Pepe, Freccia Azzurra Club. After the eight end match was played, the Morwell Team of Cristina Finocchiaro, Frank Finocchiaro & Matt Moffatt were the victors, 11 points to 4 points.
The representative for the major sponsor, Latrobe City Cr Bruce Lougheed presented the prize winnings and trophies to the Winners and the second, third and fourth place getters.
