The 8th Australian Raffa Bocce Open Championship returns to Italian Australian Club, Morwell, Victoria on the Australia Day weekend - 24th and 25th January, 2015.

This popular bocce event has attracted a record 18 teams from New South Wales, South Australia and Victoria all vying for first prize in the $3,000 prize pool.

Last year’s winners, the King Tomislav team from Sydney, will be the team to beat!  In last year’s final, the team led by George Milic together with team mates Beppi Maras and Milenco Zegupa beat the Marconi Club team decisively, 12 to 6 points.

However, the teams to watch out for will be the teams of Grazia Letizia (Mt. Gambier) and Diane Penney (Morwell) – these women have just returned from the World Women’s Championships in China with lots of experience and the determination to outclass their male counterparts!

Winners of the event will be considered for selection for the coveted World Singles Raffa Bocce Titles (Women, Men and Under 21 categories) to be held in Rome in April, 2015!

The Bocce Federation of Australia congratulates the Italian Australian Sporting and Social Club of Morwell and in particular the Club’s Bocce subcommittee and the lead sponsor the Latrobe City, for the successful staging of this Championship!

Raffa bocce is played with coloured unbiased bowls which the player can bowl or throw to knock the opponent’s bowl away and make a point close to the jack, or bounce the bowl of the side boards for a placement.  Some 45 countries on 5 continents regularly compete in world titles including China, Brazil and Italy, the current women’s team and singles titleholders.
