AUSTRALIAN JUNIOR OPEN 2011 - RESULTS

Nick Cooper was the star performer at the Australian Junior Open Championship, capturing ALL of the Under 23 titles - Singles, Bowl Throw, Rapid Throw and Precision Throw. What a remarkable effort!

In a way it wasn’t a surprise, as Nick was adding on to last year’s gold’s in the Precision and Bowl Throw events.

Runners-up in the respective titles were Kelly Sperne in the Singles, Ivan Pepe in the Bowls Throw, Daniel Samsa in the Rapid and Declan Fedele in the Precision Throw.

In the Under 18, the medals were shared more evenly. Nicholas Penney won the Bowl Throw and the Rapid Throw events. Ivan Pepe the Precision Throw and then the Doubles with Daniel Samsa. Tristan Giacometti won the Singles title.

Runners-up in the respective titles were Ivan Pepe in the Singles, Daniel Samsa in the Rapid Throw, Nicholas Penney in the Precision Throw, Liam Spagnolo the Bowl Throw and then the Doubles with Tristan Giacometti.

Nicholas Cooper was the referee’s obvious choice as the Best and Fairest player of the tournament.

The Championships were held at the Furlan Club, Victoria, over the 16th and 17th April week end.

The players benefited from the training camps held earlier in the year and their sporting development will be improved by participating in specalised sport specific conditioning programs, scheduled on a continuing basis for the remainder of the year.

Congratulations go to the Tournament Director Frank Funari and his assistants Mary Massena and Tony Biancacci for the tournament organization and the Bocce Federation of Victoria’s support, in running the event. Thanks also for the association of the principal sponsor, Divella Pasta products with this event.

The event was organized by the Bocce Federation of Australia.
