Australia heads to the World Junior and Under 23 Bocce Championships in Monaco

World Junior and Under 23 Bocce Championships 2016 - MONACO

Australia heads to the World Junior and Under 23 Bocce Championships in Monaco with the express mission of retaining its gold medal standing in the nerves of steel Precision Throw bocce event, won last year by NSW 2015 Young Athlete of the Year finalist, Daniel Samsa of Sydney!

The World Championships on 28th November to 3rd December 2016 will be hosted in the principality of Monaco with some 28 countries contesting titles in 6 disciplines.

2015 gold medal winner in the Precision Throw event Daniel Samsa will be joined by NSW newcomer and recent national champion in the elite women’s competition Nicole Samsa and Asia-Oceania competitor from Victoria, Ivan Pepe. NSW 2015 Coach of the Year finalist, George Milic is determined to see the team give their best ever performance for yet another podium finish!

The Australian team is well prepared to face their strongest challengers - the Chinese team and the teams from the powerhouses of European bocce - in 2015 Daniel Samsa outscored his Italian opponent by ten points to bring home the gold. Daniel’s powerful performance in both the recent senior elite competition and the Asia-Oceania makes him a formidable competitor.

Nicole Samsa, an all-round talented sportsperson and 2016 high achieving VCE student, is new to international sport, but selectors have no doubt that her athleticism and analytical acumen which earned her place in the Australian team will be a potent force for a winning formula!

Team member, Ivan Pepe from Melbourne is the most experienced member of the team.  He is a tough competitor with an intense passion for the sport of bocce and his convincing results over the years makes him a very effective team player.

Bocce Australia President, Raymond Cher, is Australia’s Delegate at these Championships.

Top nations to beat include China, Italy, France, Croatia, Monaco and Argentina
