ANNOUNCING THE ASIA PACIFIC SPECIAL OLYMPICS GAMES

The formal ceremony to highlight upcoming Asia Pacific Special Olympics Games was hosted by Her Excellency the Honourable Ms Quentin Bryce, AC CVO, Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia.

The Ceremony was held at Admiralty house on Saturday 12th October 2013.

It celebrated the announcement of Australia’s 400 athletes selected to represent Australia at the upcoming 2013 Special Olympics Asia Pacific Games.

These games will welcome over 2500 athletes from 32 countries to the largest sporting event ever held in the southern hemisphere for athletes with intellectual disabilities.

This ceremony highlights the Games Opening Ceremony in 50 days time in Newcastle, New South Wales.

Raymond Cher President of Bocce Australia was invited to attend the ceremony as the sport will be one of the competition sports.

As well as the athlete representatives of the sport, the Governor General took the opportunity to present an award to an athlete active in promoting the sport of dance Fran Eustace.
